The Fancy Stuff

My professional bio would say something like this:

Amy was raised in Pittsburgh, PA and from a young age new she was called to ministry. That calling took her to college in CO, ministry in Alberta Canada and Cameroon Africa, and then to Chicago for Seminary and ministry. In 2018 Amy and her husband, Steve moved to Montreat, NC to launch a CCO ministry at Montreat College.

Amy is an ordained pastor in the Evangelical Covenant Church and has been in ministry for over 15 years with at least 12 years in young adult and college ministry.

"I once understood my calling to be a worship leader. Now I have a clearer understanding that my calling is to lead people into worship - not just with music on Sunday, but to worship God with their entire lives."

The little joys.

I take delight in little things. A warm mug of coffee. A softly lit candle. A soft snuggly blanket and a good book. The smell of pine trees roasting in the sun. The sounds of a morning dove. The rays of sun through the trees. A good glass of wine. Fall apple picking. The giggle of my children. The comfort of a familiar psalm. I could go on and on. I see God all around me and I delight in all he has created.

I seek to know God’s voice and character so when the world overwhelms me, I can still see and hear Him. I believe that being a follower of Jesus means more than simply showing up on Sunday. It means studying him, knowing him, seeking to act like him every day.  It means being a good steward of all the gifts he has given me.

Why College Ministry?

In this season of ministry, I’m stewarding my gifts/skills toward ministry with college students. Late teens and early 20s is a time when people not only ask big questions about life and who they are, but they have the freedom to go explore and discover the answers.

It is a joy and honor to help guide students in their discovery. To become a trusted voice and presence in their lives to help point them toward Jesus. To help them see the good in the Church when perhaps they have been hurt by it. To help them see their inherent worth, when they doubt it because others have failed to do so.

Ministering with my whole self.

This season of ministry is different from any other. I’ve always named that I minister with my whole self. In this season of mothering young kids (currently 3 yrs and 1 yr) my whole self is constantly in demand.

I’m a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a disciple, and a pastor.

A challenge is time and energy.
A beauty is my kids occasionally volunteering with me alongside students or having students into our home and seeing our messy yet beautiful family.
